Cement is an extremely important material used for civil construction. Cement is required for civil construction of many structures like buildings, bridges, harbours, runways, roads etc that are used in make up the modern world. It is also used for different decorative features on buildings etc. The constant demand for all of these structures, increasingly from the developed and developing world, means that cement is the second most consumed commodity in the world after water.
Current scenario of Housing and Real estate construction in India
Increasing project completions, attractive offers from developers, supportive policies and improving employment opportunities have boosted buyers’ confidence in real-estate industry. Recovering from the slowdown, residential real estate demonstrated inherent strength in the quarter ended March 2022, with all India housing demand increased 7 % from a year ago. The pan-India prices increased 1.3% sequentially and 6.4% from a year ago, reflecting resilience of the housing markets.
Present demand scenario of Cement in India
According to the published data from secondary sources, India has an installed capacity of approximately 545 million MT of Cement per year. The recent budgetary allocation of over Rs 9.2 lakh crore towards agriculture, affordable housing and capital expenditure is expected to augur well for cement demand. The cement demand is expected to grow by 7-8 per cent to around 382 million MT in FY2023 supported by strong demand from civil construction of rural housing and infrastructure sectors.
India is the second-largest cement producer after China. The industry is growing by 7-8 per cent per year during last few years, to around 382 million metric tonnes in the current fiscal, helped by tailwinds of strong demand from rural housing, infrastructure and different other civil construction in India.
